Virtual Watercolor

In watercolor painting I, our classes will focus on introducing each member of our group to the fundamentals and formal qualities of working with watercolor. We will be exploring and experimenting with the various materials and techniques surrounding this practice. Our classes will consist of lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises. During our time together will have various projects to include color mixing, blending and application, landscapes and a project focused on flora and fauna. Come join our classand let’s get painting!

Virtual Photo: Lighting and Lenses

Instructor: Flossie Hoy
This is a beyond basic course that will explore the use of Lighting and Lenses while shooting Portraits and Close-up Photography. Students will produce images using High and Low-Key lighting, both natural and artificial, producing one of each. Close-up Photography will focus on the use of lenses, both long focal length and Macro. Students will produce close-up images using both lenses. Students will work with Adobe Lightroom Classic for both organizational and editing needs. Students will work to create their own personal style while working on assignments. Students will exercise their own creative judgement while pre-planning the location, time of day, lighting, lens choices, camera settings and selective focus (DOF). We will continually work on compositional skills. The class will have weekly shooting assignments which will then be viewed in class and discussed during class critiques. The course will be tailored around student needs and interest.

Participants must have taken TJF's Photo 1 Class or have permission from the instructor. Access to Adobe Lightroom Classic is highly recommended.

Virtual Creative Writing: Flash Fiction & Nonfiction

Flash storytelling refers to stories – real or fictional – that range from one paragraph to a maximum of a couple of pages. Taking a deep dive into how to write flash fiction and nonfiction, we’ll review what type of stories are best suited to this form, steps on how to pare down your stories to its essence, and publication opportunities for your work. Incorporating fun writing exercises and a mindfulness-based approach, this class is for anyone who enjoys writing in any form! Offering a safe, supportive online group environment, the class welcomes veterans, current active duty, and reserve members of the armed forces as well as veteran caregivers and immediate adult military family members.

Are you looking to sharpen your creative writing skills and captivate readers writing compelling material!? This advanced class, designed for students who have completed at least two creative writing TJF classes, will focus on deepening your understanding of the craft and art of writing – and publishing your work! A practical course covering various aspects of the creative writing process including shaping story ideas, scene and character development, building tension, editing, and publication opportunities. Offering a safe, supportive online group environment, the class welcomes veterans, current active duty, and reserve members of the armed forces as well as veteran caregivers and immediate adult military family members.
