As the days get shorter and winter gets closer, let's make something that will light up the season to come! In this workshop we'll create a handmade ceramic tree sculpture with cutouts--just add a battery tealight or strand of fairy lights for a charming addition to your winter decor!
You will choose a glaze color and your piece will be fired and finished off-site, and will be ready for pickup from the Joel Fund before the holidays (usually 2-3 weeks after class). No experience is necessary, just a little patience and the desire to try your hand at something new! Your instructor will provide the supports you need to enjoy the creative process and make something you can treasure or gift. Studio is fully accessible, participants will be able to sit or stand as desired, and we're always eager to accommodate any specific needs.
EXAMPLE OF THE PROJECT THAT WILL BE MADE IN CLASS: tree votive
No experience is needed, and all levels and abilities are welcome! Please wear clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty, and please let us know if you need any accommodations (standing workspace, additional lighting, etc.).
PLEASE NOTE: your piece will not be finished/take-home ready on the day of class--it must dry and then be kiln-fired and glazed off-site. You'll choose from a selection of food-safe glazes, and our friends at Klaystation in Raleigh will fire and glaze your piece--you'll be contacted to come pick up your completed mug from TJF within one month of class.
We offer scholarships for those who cannot afford the registration fee. To receive the scholarship promo code, email the Operation ART Program Manager at isabella@thejoelfund.org with your name and military connection.
