Virtual: Life Stories: Legacy Writing

Have you wanted to write about (and share with family and friends) important life experiences and memories, but wasn’t sure how to get started? This creative writing class is for you!

Transforming unique life events into memorable stories will enable you to pass down to future generations valuable life lessons and preserve the heritage and traditions of your family. Through fun writing exercises and mindfulness-based exercises, the class integrates different forms of writing (memoir, prose, poetry, journaling, letter-writing) as a path to explore and celebrate significant moments in your life. No previous writing experience needed! The class offers a safe, supportive online environment where you can write from the comfort of your home while being part of a writing community. The class welcomes veterans, current active duty, and reserve members of the armed forces as well as veteran caregivers and immediate adult military family members. 

This is an open-level class open to beginners and more experienced writers

Specific Dates: Dates:  3/13, 3/20, 3/27, 4/3, 4/10, 4/17 MAKE UP: 4/24

Time:Thursdays, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. (E.S.T.)

 A make up date will be used if a class is canceled due to the instructor's illness, inclement weather, or an emergency. If you are running late to class, or will miss a class, please contact the instructor directly or the Operation ART Program Manager at isabella@thejoelfund.org or 919 200 0886.

Virtual: Write to Publish

Have you completed a story (fiction, non-fiction, children’s book, poetry chapbook, or a play) you’d like to get published? Or perhaps you are in the process of writing a new work and want to become more familiar with publishing steps up ahead? This class is for you! Focusing on important steps in getting published across various literary platforms, we’ll review the different stages of preparing work for review (including editing), crafting well-written query letters, and author services. (Self-publishing will be discussed but the class focus will be on traditional publication avenues.) Offering a safe, supportive online group environment, the class welcomes veterans, current active duty, and reserve members of the armed forces as well as veteran caregivers and immediate adult military family members.

This class is for writers who have taken at least one TJF creative writing class (or who have the permission of the instructor).

Recommended class reading: The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published: How to Write it, Sell It, and Market it Successfully! by Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry (updated version).
